So let’s see… when I last left off I’d begun dyeing yarn and was knitting a set of Noro socks. I finished the socks and Sock #2 turned out with less of a wonky stripe at the heel thankfully. I’m still not thrilled with the thick and thin of Noro especially when dealing with something as fine as sock yarn, but the color is so worth it, I WILL be trying to figure out how they get such beautiful colorways in their dyeing. 🙂

I dyed this…

…to finally make my sister a stole/scarf/wrap thingy. 🙂 I’m using the One Skein: A Stole pattern which is free in Ravelry and uber easy yet lovely.

I treated myself to a new camera for my upcoming birthday so I can now take pictures like these…

Crack in a skein

So I bought some crack the other day… of course it came in the form of yarn. 🙂

That would be Noro sock yarn. *pauses to sigh* It’s so pretty I can’t wait to use it.

The purple mix is Kureyon.

And the green/blue/grey mix is Silk Garden.

I’ve been coveting this yarn since it first came out on the market but every time I was faced with it in a shop I either couldn’t decide on what color I wanted or I’d tell myself that I already had too much sock yarn sitting at home (which I still do but whatever…). But last week I was having a shitty week and felt like doing a little retail therapy and so I bought these online. 🙂 Ahh…

I probably won’t get to use it until I’m on vacation because frankly I have like next to NO time to knit anymore. Plus I’ve already got a pair of socks on the needles and I haven’t yet been able to talk myself into justifying another WIP. 🙂 That scarf I started in Feb… still not done. The throw that I started a month or so ago… Frogged and started over then stalled. My socks… sock one is to the heel flap but I screwed it up so I had to frog it back and I haven’t picked it up since. And then there’s this…

I can’t tell you what it is because it’s a gift. But the birthday it was for was over a week ago. So yeah. Like I said, no time to knit. But… 33 days til my vacation. 🙂 Wahoo!

In other news, I’ve discovered Christopher Moore’s books and love them. 🙂 He totally cracks me up. I finally saw Star Trek and I’m totally in love/lust with Chris Pine and his pretty eyes. 🙂 I saw Up yesterday with the monsters too and it’s so freaking cute that I can’t put into words how much I loved it. I’m also now half moved from my house into my mom’s house which will prove to be a huge money saver when I can get rid of my house. Plus living here gives me internet access again which I’ve missed horribly! 🙂

Anywho… that’s the skinny. Nothing exciting, just the same old stuff. 🙂

I spent the weekend in Manistee at a friend’s cottage with 9 other women and a very large dog. There was a blizzard (literally) and we were “stuck” inside all weekend. Knitting was certainly accomplished. 🙂

This is from a Needful Yarns Camp Set… they fit the Doodlebutt perfectly. Matching socks are on the needles right now. 🙂

But wait… I’ve knitted for myself too! One Amanda Hat (free on Ravelry)…

Top view (cut off because my screen on my camera is broken and every photograph is a crap shoot)…

Sexy up-close view…

Sexy “I’ve been knitting in my jammies” photo… Still the Queen of Self Portaits, you see…

And I even designed a scarf to go with it… yup, that’s my own pattern, baby! Again with the crooked pictures…

Yay me! Yay for the scarf, not the cut off photo. 🙂 Guess whose going to be buying a new camera in the new year?

I’ve got more to share but yeah… tired. 🙂

Okay so I’ve been thinking WAY too much about this whole sock yarn blanket. I simply haven’t made enough socks to have enough scraps for this blanket. I have lots of sock yarn but it was all bought for duh… making socks! LOL So I either have to knit a bunch of socks in order to have scraps, buy a bunch of sock yarn specifically for the blanket, or… I can beg. *nods*

So I’m begging…

Do you have sock yarn scraps that you’re keeping just because you can’t throw them out?
Do you want to contribute to a project but not have to actually knit anything?
Do you love me?

If you can answer yes to any of those questions, and you have spare sock yarn scraps around that you’d like to donate to me, let me know! 🙂 I’m looking for sock weight yarn, any color, preferably superwash, but I’m not that picky. Donors will not only get my undying love, but also some sort of hand crafted knitish goodness from me as a thank you (i.e. stitch markers, mini scissors with beaded cord, etc.).

If you know my e-mail address, hit me up. If you don’t know my e-mail address, comment and I’ll e-mail you.

I had a perfectly good (and almost finished) post written up and then my computer decided to freeze up. *kicks it* About a week ago I got this message from Dell saying that I needed to install their support center thingy and ever since I did, I’ve had nothing but trouble… ironic, eh? Anyway, let’s see if I can remember what the hell I said the first time around. 🙂

First of all… how many of you get the Lion Brand newsletter and cracked up over this one?

Bwahaha… seriously? Um yeah… okay, no. Geesh…

I survived my first Black Friday (and Saturday) as a retail worker. 🙂 The shop was uber busy yesterday until about 4:00 and then it was pretty slow, but the sales were quite impressive for the day if you ask me. 🙂 Later in the evening a familiar face came into the shop though quickly followed by the question, “Are we allowed to hug the employees?!” Yes, Miss Kelli aka Knitterbunny was in town to judge a bunny thing this weekend and stopped by to say hi and dig through our yarn at the shop. So I got not one but two Kelli Hugs and that totally made the day!

I did however go home with a wicked migrane last night which didn’t taper off until about 10 this morning, but luckilly I didn’t work today until 1:00 so I was able to get a little bit of painless sleep before I had to be back at work. I reallllly need a massage now though… Today we were pretty darn busy again but it wasn’t quite as crazy as yesterday. I also spent a great deal of time setting up the display for the new Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend yarn which is just purrrrty. 🙂 You can see the colors over at Purl Soho.com, but ours is cheaper so buy it from us instead. 🙂

I don’t really have any knitting content pictures to share, but I can share some stash stuff. 🙂 Last Wednesday I bought myself a treat. I’m now the proud owner of Fergie the Frog. It’s a handy little trinket holder for stitch markers, mini scissors, and other stuff needed while knitting. I wouldn’t have normally spent that much on something to hold stuff in, but I’m a frog lover and well… how could I resist? Plus it’ll be nice because for a while Devin won’t be able to figure out how to get the zipper open and therefore won’t be able to dump my stuff all over the floor. hehe… This picture doesn’t do the color justice, btw.

This lovely yarn is Autunno by Di.ve and it’s all for me. 🙂 I decided I needed a new scarf and perhaps some matching wrist warmers so last week after molesting this yarn I got it.

As for stuff I don’t have pictures of… I bought some Jitterbug (my first ever purchase of the stuff! *gasp*), it’s not for me though… it’ll soon be a pair of Christmas socks for someone special. 🙂 I also bought my first Alpaca… also not for me though. LOL I’m making the Maple Shawl out of a strand of Drops Alpaca held with a strand of Drops Cotton Viscose… should be lovely. Seems like there was something else, but I can’t think of it right now. 🙂 Oh wait, I remember… I bought The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns after Suann told me that it was a good one that I needed. We didn’t have it at the shop (we do now though) so I found a used one on Amazon (oh how I love used books!) and it arrived in the mail today. 🙂

Oh and check this out… 🙂 About a month into working at the shop I made myself a Ghetto name tag because I didn’t have a real one. I ganked a name tag that belonged to an ex-employee and covered her name with mine. But my darling Matt finally decided today that I needed a non ghetto one. 🙂

Ghetto Fabulous…

Ghetto Fab...

Thanks, Matt!

Thanksgiving came and went without any major family drama so that was lovely. 🙂 Ravyn and Wesley decorated the dinner table for us this year and made personalized name cards. 🙂 Wesley made mine…

But his was the best of all of them… hehe…

More pictures will be in my photo blog later tonight for your viewing pleasure after I have the chance to upload them. 🙂

And on that note, I’m outta here! I might do some charity knitting with Sarah and the other Guild Girls tomorrow, but that depends on the status of my poor neck and back tomorrow. 🙂

Happy Knitting!

So close, yet so far away

I’ve decided that since WordPress sort of sucks when it comes to comment replies, I’m going to just reply to comments in my comments. Okay that probably made no sense. Let me start over… if you leave a comment then instead of me replying by e-mail I’ll just reply to you by leaving a reply back to you in my comments. Mmmkay? Stupid, yes but it’s the only thing I can think of until WordPress changes it’s comments system. (FYI, over in Livejournal world the blog owner can reply to the comments right there and it’s much easier… I’ve been blogging there for five years so I’m picky). 🙂 So in other words, please if you comment, give me a day or six and then check back for my reply. I’ll heart you for it.

Hi ho hi ho…

I had a whole post written up and then my browser decided to be a bitch and die on me. *insert whining* Let’s see if I can remember what the heck I said the first time around. 🙂

So yeah… one of the cool things about working in a yarn store is that in the past when I’d lose the label for my yarn and someone would ask me what yarn I was using I’d say, “I dunno… but I bought it at ThreadBear a year ago…” But now I have access to these handy dandy sample books that show me the name and colorway of the mystery yarn!

So for those of you who have asked me what the yarn is that I’m using on my current socks:

Strapaz Cotton Effekt

…I finally have an answer. 🙂 The above Pretty is Steinbach Wolle’s Strapaz Cotton Effekt Colorway #01. It’s pretty and it’s cotton, wool and polyamide (whatever that is) and I love it. But no, we don’t have it in the shop anymore. We’ve got other’s kind of like it though.

And to answer your next question… no I’m still not done with Sock #2. I’m ready to turn the heel, but alas… the effing pattern is missing! I used Lynn H’s (a ThreadBear regular) toe up sock pattern for the heel of Sock #1 and now I can’t find the pattern to finish this sock. This is, of course the same pattern that I lost the first three pages of… but because I’m in love with the toe up toe found over on Knitty, I didn’t need those pages, but I do need at least the heel pages! I could re-buy the pattern, this I know. I just don’t wanna. So yeah, the sock is on hold until I decide what to do. 🙂

I did cast on for the Heelless Sleeping Socks though to see if it’s going to be a good pattern for Christmas knitting (translation: no fitted socks). I don’t have enough done to even bother taking a picture yet, but once I do I will of course. I’ve got a picture of Ravyn’s scarf though… I ripped it out and started it again in a different pattern which I love (the No-Roll Scarf). It’s actually bigger than this now because I worked on it last night at Shawn’s, but here’s a glimpse.
No Roll Scarf

In other news, I want to create a scarf. Not just any scarf though. See, in 46 days the world will be graced with a new Backstreet Boys cd. I am a Backstreet Whore if you didn’t already know it. And because nearly everything I do seems to merge with knitting now a days, I was thinking “I should make a Backstreet scarf between now and cd release day.” Why? Because I’m a dork. I don’t know what this scarf might consist of, but it’s still a new idea. 🙂 Maybe if I can get Matt to add Backstreet to the playlist for the shop *batts eyelashes and blows kisses* I could be inspired while I’m working. LOL

With that… I’ll sign off for now. I feel like knitting and have rambled enough for now. 🙂

Knitterpalooza this Saturday!

Needful and half off

WordPress isn’t delivering my comments for some reason. I haven’t been ignoring you, I just didn’t know I had any comments!

Thanks a bunch for all of the congrats on getting a job. I’m loving working at ThreadBear and being around all of The Pretty is soooo much fun (but also a bit of torture because I want SO much of it!). Yesterday while straightening up shelves I came across a sale sign. “Needful Kelly 50% off” Needful being the brand and Kelly being the type of course, but I had to laugh. Not only am I needful but I’m half off too?! Hehe… at least Kelly was spelled wrong, so I can’t take total offense to the sign. ;o) If it had been Needful Kellie, then I’d have to whine about the sign. hehe..

I did however score some yarn for less than 4 bucks thanks to a 70% off markdown.

Gotta have pink

That will soon become a scarf and whatever for my Ravyn. Blogless Emily knit up a scarf in this stuff last week that looked so fabulous. It’s kinda fugly just in the ball, but knit up, it’s uber cool. 🙂

I haven’t done any major knitting this week since Wednesday but I’ve seriously got a knitting itch. I’ve been so freaking tired every night though that I haven’t been able to focus on knitting. My tendonitis-ridden hands, wrists, and arms are also slowly getting used to working retail too, so for a lot of the week I have been letting my hands rest once I get home so not to utterly piss them off.

Remember the yarn I mentioned winning the other day? It came in the mail today. What a happy surprise to get as I left the house to go to work! 🙂

Skittles by Hockeymom

Thanks again Sandi! It’s beautiful! Now I just need to figure out what to do with it. 🙂 280 yards of licorice twist 100% merino yarn hand dyed. Any suggestions on what I should make with it?

One week until Knitterpalooza! I don’t know yet if I’m working that day or not, but either way I look forward to meeting so many knit bloggers! 🙂
