WIP: Illusion knitting

I’ve been wanting to try illusion knitting for a while and apparently this winter it was finally time. πŸ˜‰ This will eventually (hopefully before Christmas Eve) be a scarf for my Ravynnator.

Cool, eh?

The pattern is from here. Yarn is Caron’s Simply Soft (aka “Yarn my SIL can’t kill”)

That is all… I need to actually KNIT instead of playing online. πŸ™‚

“Measure in Love”

Well… the presents have all been exchanged and the cookies noshed on. I spent countless hours yesterday watching the kids play their new Wii (I happen to kick ass at Wii Golf, btw… hehe), and today I enjoyed sleeping late in my own bed today after having slept at my mom’s for two nights in a row. My kitties were also very happy to have me back at home last night which they demonstrated by spending as much time as possible laying ON me and purring (without touching one another of course… hehe). πŸ™‚

I didn’t get any knitting swag for Christmas… that’s kind of a bummer. But I did score tickets to see Adam Pascal at the Wharton Center next month… wee! I know, most of you are thinking, “who the hell is Adam Pascal?” right? See, I’m an uber Renthead and Adam Pascal was the original “Roger” in Rent on Broadway (and was also in the movie version in 2005). I never got to see him on stage as Roger because he was long done with the show when I finally saw it in NYC, and then this past summer when he was in it again I was, of course, broke and couldn’t make the trip. But… now I get to see him in concert and if I’m lucky he’ll sing something from Rent but even if he doesn’t, I get to spend the evening listening to the pretty that is his voice as well enjoy the pretty that is his face. πŸ™‚ Yay!

So yeah… that’s about it. LOL I haven’t held a knitting needle since before I got sick and although I thought that maybe I’d knit today… it didn’t happen. Snuggling under my new green fleece blanket sounds SO much better. πŸ™‚

It’s always something

So last year my christmas knitting got interrupted when my house was broken into on the 20th and then I got laid off from my job on the 29th. This year… I’ve got the flu. I’ve been in bed for three days and have been utterly miserable. Obviously no knitting has been done. I’ve already told my sister that her birthday gift (her birthday is the 20th) will be late because I was going to mail it Saturday and then got sick… and that her Christmas gift isn’t done yet because I haven’t been able to knit for several days. Wouldn’t want to puke on the Alpaca… LOL She’s told me though that my gift will be late too so it’s all good. The person I’m making socks for… yeah, she’s going to get the yarn cake to look at and then I’ll take it back so I can knit the socks for her. Any other knitted stuff that I considered making… so not going to happen. It’ll be the usual Christmas Eve shopping extravaganza with my mom again. πŸ™‚ We always have fun that day anyway.

I think I’ve met my sitting up quota for the hour… I’m going back to lay down. If I don’t post again until Christmas…. Merry Christmas!!

I had a perfectly good (and almost finished) post written up and then my computer decided to freeze up. *kicks it* About a week ago I got this message from Dell saying that I needed to install their support center thingy and ever since I did, I’ve had nothing but trouble… ironic, eh? Anyway, let’s see if I can remember what the hell I said the first time around. πŸ™‚

First of all… how many of you get the Lion Brand newsletter and cracked up over this one?

Bwahaha… seriously? Um yeah… okay, no. Geesh…

I survived my first Black Friday (and Saturday) as a retail worker. πŸ™‚ The shop was uber busy yesterday until about 4:00 and then it was pretty slow, but the sales were quite impressive for the day if you ask me. πŸ™‚ Later in the evening a familiar face came into the shop though quickly followed by the question, “Are we allowed to hug the employees?!” Yes, Miss Kelli aka Knitterbunny was in town to judge a bunny thing this weekend and stopped by to say hi and dig through our yarn at the shop. So I got not one but two Kelli Hugs and that totally made the day!

I did however go home with a wicked migrane last night which didn’t taper off until about 10 this morning, but luckilly I didn’t work today until 1:00 so I was able to get a little bit of painless sleep before I had to be back at work. I reallllly need a massage now though… Today we were pretty darn busy again but it wasn’t quite as crazy as yesterday. I also spent a great deal of time setting up the display for the new Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend yarn which is just purrrrty. πŸ™‚ You can see the colors over at Purl Soho.com, but ours is cheaper so buy it from us instead. πŸ™‚

I don’t really have any knitting content pictures to share, but I can share some stash stuff. πŸ™‚ Last Wednesday I bought myself a treat. I’m now the proud owner of Fergie the Frog. It’s a handy little trinket holder for stitch markers, mini scissors, and other stuff needed while knitting. I wouldn’t have normally spent that much on something to hold stuff in, but I’m a frog lover and well… how could I resist? Plus it’ll be nice because for a while Devin won’t be able to figure out how to get the zipper open and therefore won’t be able to dump my stuff all over the floor. hehe… This picture doesn’t do the color justice, btw.

This lovely yarn is Autunno by Di.ve and it’s all for me. πŸ™‚ I decided I needed a new scarf and perhaps some matching wrist warmers so last week after molesting this yarn I got it.

As for stuff I don’t have pictures of… I bought some Jitterbug (my first ever purchase of the stuff! *gasp*), it’s not for me though… it’ll soon be a pair of Christmas socks for someone special. πŸ™‚ I also bought my first Alpaca… also not for me though. LOL I’m making the Maple Shawl out of a strand of Drops Alpaca held with a strand of Drops Cotton Viscose… should be lovely. Seems like there was something else, but I can’t think of it right now. πŸ™‚ Oh wait, I remember… I bought The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns after Suann told me that it was a good one that I needed. We didn’t have it at the shop (we do now though) so I found a used one on Amazon (oh how I love used books!) and it arrived in the mail today. πŸ™‚

Oh and check this out… πŸ™‚ About a month into working at the shop I made myself a Ghetto name tag because I didn’t have a real one. I ganked a name tag that belonged to an ex-employee and covered her name with mine. But my darling Matt finally decided today that I needed a non ghetto one. πŸ™‚

Ghetto Fabulous…

Ghetto Fab...

Thanks, Matt!

Thanksgiving came and went without any major family drama so that was lovely. πŸ™‚ Ravyn and Wesley decorated the dinner table for us this year and made personalized name cards. πŸ™‚ Wesley made mine…

But his was the best of all of them… hehe…

More pictures will be in my photo blog later tonight for your viewing pleasure after I have the chance to upload them. πŸ™‚

And on that note, I’m outta here! I might do some charity knitting with Sarah and the other Guild Girls tomorrow, but that depends on the status of my poor neck and back tomorrow. πŸ™‚

Happy Knitting!

It’s been a pretty good week around here. I’ve been knitting and actually making progress *gasp* I don’t have any pictures because my camera was on empty and I had to charge it, but this weekend I should be able to show off some stuff. πŸ™‚

I finished Ravyn’s Scarf O’ Pinkness tonight. She’s uber excited about it. I have to block it though so she can’t have it quite yet. I also have left over yarn so I’m thinking I might be able to make her a matching Calorimetry for her. I haven’t looked at the pattern yet though to see if I have enough. πŸ™‚ If not, I’ll make up my own pattern, I know there’s enough yarn to make her something for her head. πŸ™‚

I’ve also begun making a pair of Wee Warmers (aka the hand knit version of Babylegs) for a friend who wanted some for her niece. I casted on yesterday and I’m over half way done with the first one… such a quick knit! They’re darn cute too. Devin will be my model once they’re done even though they’re part pink… hehe

Other items still on the needles… Heelless Sleeping Socks and Lou Shawl version 1042 *lol* What I really want to make next is a new scarf for moi. It’s finally cold enough around here to actually put a scarf to good use (I turned my heat on at home this morning…) so I think it’s time for a new one for ME! πŸ™‚ Ooh and fingerless gloves too, gotta make some more of those. Plus I’ve got lots of Christmas knitting to plan and begin. Yikes! I really need a weekend knitting retreat soon!

Tis all for now… πŸ™‚

This has been done since October and regularly used by Devin, but I kept forgetting to take a picture of it. Then of course all of the drama last month (see previous post) and well… I’m finally posting it now. πŸ˜€

Here’s a bad shot of the Norma Scarf while blocking… I don’t have a good finished picture yet. But the top layer is the original width, and then the bottom is the blocked width (I had to make two because the first one was too short)

And these aren’t knitted, but they’re crafty Christmas gifts I made for three people.

My christmas knitting has come to a stall.Β  Wanna see why?

This is what my yarn stash looks like right now because my house was broken into on Wednesday.Β  My house is a big fat mess and several things near and dear to my heart are gone.Β  *glares at whomever did it*Β  Full story and more pix in my other blog.

The good: I wasn’t home when it happened.Β  My cats are all fine.Β  No one was hurt.

But… it still sucks big time. :p

Lou Shawl, part 2

IΒ  ended up ripping out the shawl.Β  The perfectionist in me couldn’t bear the idea of giving a gift with such a crappy error in it.Β  I can’t for the life of me figure out what I want to do for this shawl.Β  I’ve looked at a billion different patterns, tried a few, hated them all.Β  I saw this one today via a knitting community in livejournal and I love the look but it doesn’t exactly work for the yarn I have.Β  Which would mean another trip to the LYS for new yarn.Β  But Lou does live in Georgia so the lightweight of this pattern would be good.Β  Bah!Β  I’m beginning to think that I need to work on a different project so that I can finish something and feel the satisfaction of having a FO and then maybe I’ll feel motivated to work on the shawl.

I mentioned not too long ago that I started my sister’s shawl.Β  Β

Β Then I found a problem…

A mystery loop of doom has shown up and it’s so many rows back that the idea of frogging back to the loop makes me very sad.Β  I can’t decide if I’m going to rip the whole damn thing out and just start over, again, or leave it and try to make it work by fudging it.Β

This on the other hand is the pretty that will one day make a scarf for a dear friend of mine who hopefully doesn’t read this blog. hehe… It’ll be what I call a “Norma Scarf” because my friend Norma who taught me to knit makes these beautiful scarves with bunches of different yarns and this will be my attempt at being cool like her. hehe.

Β The colors aren’t true, but they’re all shades of pinks.Β  I think this will be the next project I begin because I can’t wait to play with all of the different yarns.

I’m not getting nearly enough knitting done despite how close we are to Christmas.Β  But, that’s what happens when you’ve got a crazy person living in your house (who is in the process of moving out) and you’re in school and working full time.Β

I did manage to start a new pair of wristwarmers this week.Β  I’m using thisΒ pattern, sorta.Β  I’m using the sock yarn I bought for myself in October because I STILL haven’t started any new socks, but now that I’ve begun making the wrist warmers and I’m seeing how purty the yarn is, I want socks out of it. :opΒ  So I may just have to go back to Threadbear and buy two more balls of it and one day make socks to match my wrist warmers. LOL How tacky would that be?Β  Or maybe I can be crafty and turn the wrist warmer into a sock.Β  I’ve never done top down socks, so I haven’t a clue how to do it, but I’m still on what would be the top of the sock (if I were making socks).Β  I dunno, but I plan on knitting tonight in front of the television as long as I don’t fall asleep first. πŸ˜€Β  It’s cold and rainy out today, perfect for staying in and knitting.

Tomorrow’s the big day for Kristi!Β  Keep her and her boys in your happy thoughts!
