Knitters to the Rescue!

I read this post over at Crazy Aunt Purl’s blog the other day and about cried in my coffee over it. See, there’s this little adorable guy named Evan…
How cute is he?!
and he’s got a brain tumor. He needs surgery but of course insurance companies pretty much suck and won’t pay for a lot of it. So there’s an online donation fund started now at Evan’s mom’s blog (her name is Allison, btw) OR you can shop in her online yarn shop and help her out that way. Puhleeeeese consider helping them out, how can you turn down such a cute face? Allison also has a blog for her yarn shop if you’d like to check that out as well.

I bought yarn today… I’ll give you two guesses on what my fave colors are… LOL I didn’t realize until I was on my way to the checkout just what I’d done. 🙂

What are my fave colors?

And… *drumroll* I managed to do a toe up cast on using two circs! *dances around happily* Took me a while to figure it out but yay! I love how smooth it is, you can’t even see or feel the seam. I’m sort of winging it from there because every sock pattern I have in my stash isn’t toe up. LOL But so far I’m happy with the method. The only thing that bites is the fact that the circular cords are uber stiff and get in the way. But that’s because they’re cheap-ish. The yarn is actually green and white too, it looks black almost in the picture. They’ll be my first pair of MSU/Marshall socks. :o)

Weird pooling

I’m almost done with these. I’m a little disappointed in the pooling of the stripes on the first one though (the one on the right) now that the second one looks so much better. I may have to make a third one and see if it goes better. 🙂 I’m not real concerned with things matching up totally, I think it’s better when they’re different, but yeah, these are almost too different.

Kid wristwarmers are a super fast knit though… I love it. I started the second one last night just before Idol came on at 8 and by the time I was leaving Shawn’s just after 11 I was almost done. I would’ve stayed and finished it but she had to work this morning because she has a job and well… I let her go to bed. LOL

She didn’t get any knitting done, but she did do her taxes. LOL We’ve got Knit Night all planned out though. As you may recall, Knit Night was originally Lost & Knit Night. Then when Lost went on Hiatus it was Day Break and Knit Night. Now, it’s going to be Water Aerobics followed by Bones, Idol, Lost & Knit Night. LOL We’re dorks.

I also decided last night while looking through the stitch dictionary over at Lion Brand that I’m going to attempt to learn some of the stiches there. There are some great ones over there and they don’t look too hard, I just haven’t ever done much more than your basic knit, purl, YO, drop stitch and stuff. I also want to learn to do cables but yeah… holding off on that for a while. 🙂

Anywho… happy knitting!

WIP: Ravyn Wristwarmers

I just discovered that my laptop does in fact have a slot for my photo card. I’m so freaking happy about this that I could passionately kiss everyone who works for Dell right now. Hehe… Now I don’t have to steal my mother’s camera cord nor do I need to buy a new one. Whoot!

And, now I can show you my WIP. I think I mentioned I was making Ravyn some wristwarmers, and I finished one yesterday. Here she is trying it on tonight to make sure it fits (it did! Woo!).

Ravyn Wristwarmer #1

The pattern is my own, I worked in the round and just sort of eyeballed it until I thought it was the correct length and width for her cute little first grade hands. The yarn is Sassy Stripes by Moda-Dea that was on clearance for like a buck one day at Meijer. 🙂 I have no idea what the colorway is, but I just got some Stormy tonight because it’s pretty and will make fabulous green and white socks. The yarn is better for adult sized projects because the stripes end up laying out better, but for a first time project I thought it was a nice cheap yarn to fool around with, and it has pink in it which is a requirement for most 7 year olds. 🙂

I also got two balls of Tweed by N.Y. Yarns which is in colorway #6. It was more than half off so I figured I had to buy it. I love clearanced yarn!

Delurk Yourself!

Are you a lurker? Leave me a comment, I want to know if you read this blog!

No pictures to show off right now because I keep forgetting to take my mom’s camera cord. The one thing I wish my laptop had was a card reader. :op I’m officially back in the world with a computer. Whoot! I’m also officially back in school. Last semester… yay! :o) I have to go downtown and blow a bunch of money on more textbooks this afternoon. *cries*

As for knitting, I’m working on a few different things right now. I’m still working on a shawl for my sister. The one I last posted about did end up being finished but then I decided it was too small and would have been more of a “boob warmer” than a shawl so I started another one. LOL My poor sister… Someday she’ll get a shawl. 🙂

I’m also working on a pair of wristwarmers for my Ravyn. I bought a pair for myself (hey, they were on clearance, I couldn’t turn down $3.00 wrist warmers that I didn’t have to knit) and she likes them but they’re too big for her, of course, so I started a pair for her. It’s in self-striping sock yarn that I got on clearance a while ago. So far they’re going well, I just hope they’re big enough for her. :o) I’m not a gauge person, I don’t do samples, I just like to knit and go for it.

Ooh and I’m still not sure if my schedule will let me do this, but I hope so… Knit Michigan is February 3rd and I SOOOO want to do it! If any of my local knitters are planning on doing the Knit Marathon this year please let me know! Or if you just want to go for the Knit & Spin In that would be great too! I just want to go!

Speaking of going… I need to go. Must prettify myself and go dump a bunch of money on overpriced books. *twirls finger in the air*

Happy Knitting. :o)

This has been done since October and regularly used by Devin, but I kept forgetting to take a picture of it. Then of course all of the drama last month (see previous post) and well… I’m finally posting it now. 😀

Here’s a bad shot of the Norma Scarf while blocking… I don’t have a good finished picture yet. But the top layer is the original width, and then the bottom is the blocked width (I had to make two because the first one was too short)

And these aren’t knitted, but they’re crafty Christmas gifts I made for three people.

Happy New Year

Well, 2006 ended up even more suckalicious than it already was.  Turns out that not only did my house get broken into a few days before Christmas, but then I got “laid off” from work a few days before New Years.

It’s a shitty situation, but I’m planing on making the most of it.  This is my last semster of school and I’ve got about 16 credits planned so not having to go to work could be a good thing.  Unemployment should take me through the semester and I can focus on my school work (and knitting lol) without going totally insane.

On the break-in homefront, I’m still working with the insurance claim stuff and my door still isn’t fixed (but securely blocked).  I’ll have my new computer soon though and that’ll make me happy (and allow me to participate in my two online classes lol).  Three kids were arrested in the neighborhood for breaking into a house but I haven’t heard jack squat from the PD so I haven’t a clue what is going on and if these are the same kids who broke into my house.  They never let me know if they found any prints on the glass they took in from my back door either.

Knitting is going slow as I’m still trying to get my house back in order from the break in, and of course there was Christmas and everything else.  I did start a scarf last night though that’s knit on the diagonal.  Knitting while drinking wine is… interesting.  LOL

I hope you’re all well and that 2007 is a good year for you!
